The Moorooka Aboriginal Camp Book Launch was a special community event supported by the Ubuntu Foundation to honour and preserve an important chapter of Brisbane’s First Nations history. Held at Clubhouse Moorooka, the event celebrated the launch of A Forgotten History: Moorooka Aboriginal Camp Life by Chrissy Hansen-Doherty, based on the recollections of her mother, Auntie Sue Hansen, who lived in the camp in the 1940s and 1950s.
The Moorooka Aboriginal Camp existed on the edge of what is now Toohey Forest between Mayfield Road and Evans Road, and was home to thousands of Aboriginal people between the 1920s and 1960s. Bringing together former camp residents, descendants, family members and the wider community, the launch created a powerful space for truth-telling, remembrance and connection, helping ensure these stories are not forgotten.
